Overview

An adventure like no other. Paddle the mighty Zambezi and experience Africa from a unique and thrilling perspective!

There is no better way to see Africa’s mighty Zambezi than from the water itself. This spectacular adventure takes you into the heart of the Zambezi National Park. An important conservation area, it is teeming with elephants as well as lions, leopards, spotted hyenas, wild dogs, hippos and crocodiles. On this special canoe safari you will be able to spot wildlife from the water - a thrilling experience. The expedition camping facilities are comfortable but basic and there are no fixed ablution facilities along the way. However, you will see pristine landscapes, enjoy spectacular stargazing and finish the trip at Mana Pools, one of Africa's most renowned game viewing spots.

Full Itinerary

Day 1 - Lake Kariba

Internal flight between Harare Airport and Kariba Airport and then transfer 15 minutes to Hornbill Lodge. The lodge has a panoramic view of Lake Kariba, one of the largest reservoirs in the world, home to hippo and crocodiles and offering dramatic views and spectacular sunsets.

The lodge has comfortable chalets and you can relax in a central bar and lounge area. Guests can cool off in the plunge pool and dine alfresco on the deck, with beautiful panoramic views under the shade of Africa’s indigenous trees.

Optional Extras: (weather and time permitting) include fishing, game safari, motorboat safari or a visit to the lake's massive dam wall.

Day 2 - Lower Zambezi

Today you start your canoe safari! You will be collected in the early morning and transferred to Chirundu in an open 4x4 vehicle. Once the canoes and kit are unloaded, a safety talk and demonstration of how to paddle a canoe will be given. A packed lunch will be taken on the river. At approximately 5pm camp is set up on an Kakomarara Island with time to relax before dinner. Total distance - 11 miles

Day 3 - Lower Zambezi

This morning, guests will wake up at sunrise for tea, coffee and biscuits before paddling for a couple of hours to the breakfast stop. Canoeing will resume until midday for a well-earned lunch & time to relax until mid afternoon (depending on the weather). At approximately 5pm you will stop canoeing and set up camp on Lone Acacia Island.

Day 4 - Lower Zambezi

Today’s programme is as per the previous day with the overnight camp on Trichelia Island.
Total distance - 14 miles

Day 5 - Mana Pools National Park

This morning you will have a more leisurely start before setting off at approximately 8am. You will arrive at Mana Pools at approximately 10am.
Total distance - 4 miles

Transfer to Kanga Camp in Mana Pools National Park. This remote area and World Heritage Site has never been developed and Kanga Camp offers you a pure and unspoilt African experience to finish your trip.

Accomodation: African Bush Camps Kanga Camp

Day 6 - Harare and home

After breakfast transfer to Dandawa Airstrip for your flight to Harare Airport for your onward international flight home
