Overview

See the mighty Victoria Falls as well as incredible wildlife (from both the water and dry land) on this amazing trip to Zambia.

From the raging torrents creating one of nature’s spectacular world wonders to meandering river banks - home to vast herds of elephants, crocodiles and hippo, there is a watery theme to this safari. You’ll even get out on the water yourself on a thrilling canoe safari where you’ll see big game up close. Travelling through some of Zambia’s best wilderness areas, this is a perfect opportunity to get off the beaten track and away from other tourists. Meaning you’ll have incredible wildlife encounters all to yourself.

Day 1 - Livingstone

Arrive in Livingstone where you will be met by a Big Safari Company representative and transfer you to the lodge - a drive of approximately 30 minutes. Chundukwa River Lodge has breath-taking views over the Zambezi, plenty of places to relax, a plunge pool and beautiful indigenous gardens. The lodge also offers a huge variety of activities and excursions you can do in the local area.

Accommodation: Chundukwa River Lodge
Optional activities: River watching, boating, horse-riding.

Day 2 - Livingstone

Today you will visit the incredible Victoria Falls - one of the natural wonders of the world. You will have a bespoke tour with a personal guide who will tell you all about the fall’s history and geology and show you the best places to take photographs. You will also have a sunset cruise on the Zambezi with sundowner snacks and drinks.

Day 3 - Lower Zambezi

Transfer to Livingstone airport and fly to Lower Zambezi Park. Transfer by vehicle to Chongwe Camp which is set at the confluence of the Chongwe and Zambezi Rivers against a beautiful mountainous backdrop. By land, you can enjoy game drives and walking safaris, or take to the rivers and explore with boat cruises, canoeing safaris and tiger-fishing. In camp, the brand new wildlife hide is great for photography, especially rare nocturnal creatures or you can simply watch out for the elephants who frequently enjoy wandering right through the camp!

Optional activities: Night game drives, walking safaris, boat cruises, sleepout under the stars

Day 4 - Lower Zambezi

Enjoy morning and afternoon game drives in the Lower Zambezi wilderness. This region is especially wonderful for large elephant herds, diverse birdlife and wild dogs.

Day 5 - Lower Zambezi

Today you will enjoy a canoeing safari which operates all year round. During the driest months of August to November wildlife congregates along the river making it a thrilling experience to see elephants and other big game up close.

Day 6 - Luangwa

Fly from Lower Zambezi to Luangwa Valley and transfer to the lodge. Chikunto Safari Lodge is located within the South Luangwa National Park and enjoys sweeping views of the Luangwa River. Its luxury tents are built on raised decking with a covered outdoor seating area. The main lodge area has a cosy thatched bar and a salt water swimming pool.

Day 7 - Luangwa

South Luangwa National park is a beautiful wilderness area set in a wide rift valley. Despite offering spectacular wildlife viewing, it receives so few tourists so it is a great place to get off the beaten track. It is recognized as one of the best parks in Africa to encounter the elusive leopard. Elephants abound and expansive herds of buffalo are often seen. The Luangwa River is also home to crocodile and sizable pods of hippo.
